Astorino, Skelton score TDs at end of game

GM's Lancers come from behind to win PIAA quarterfinal, 14-6

By Josh Kulesza with staff reports/Boro Online

PITTSBURGH (Dec. 2) -- The General McLane Lancers battled Oliver and the elements Friday, Dec. 1, and ran to a 14-6 victory thanks to a solid defensive effort and timely scoring at the end of the PIAA Class AAA quarterfinal game at Pittsburgh's Cupples Stadium.

It took two touchdowns in the last 5 1/2 minutes of the game for the Lancers to defeat the Bears, who put up a strong defensive effort of their own, and move on in the PIAA playoffs.

The game was scoreless through three quarters until the Bears broke on top early in the fourth quarter when Terrell Scott scored on a 7-yard run that was set up by a 30-yard pass from quarterback Devaughn Copeland to Jacques Robinson. But the extra point try by the Pittsburgh City League champions was blocked by McLane's Dan Skelton.

Following the kickoff, and a 20-yard return by GM's Drew Astorino, the Lancers moved the ball down the field, scoring on a 12-yard run by Astorino. Skelton's extra point kick was good, giving McLane the lead with just under 5 1/2 minutes left in the game.

GM got the ball back on an interception by Ryan Skelton, and with under a minute left in the game Dan Skelton finished the short, 16-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run.
