Pennsylvania Economic Review

The Pennsylvania Economic Review, a publication of the Pennsylvania Economic Association (PEA), publishes scholarly articles and book reviews submitted from anywhere in the world and in all economic areas. The PER also welcomes submissions containing an analysis of the Pennsylvania economy. It encourages members of the Pennsylvania Economic Association who present papers at the Association s Annual Conferences to submit their papers for possible publication. Referees evaluate articles that authors submit for possible publication. The editors, assisted by the recommendations of the referees and the editorial board, accept or reject an article for publication.

The Pennsylvania Economic Review is featured in Cabell's Directory of Publishing Opportunities in Economics & Finance and articles are listed in the EBSCO database with full text reference.

Subscription

The Pennsylvania Economic Review is a biannual, refereed journal sponsored by the Pennsylvania Economic Association. The subscription fee for institutions and non-members is $25 per year. Association members receive a journal subscription without additional cost.

Please provide a complete mailing address for your subscription and include a check payable to the Pennsylvania Economic Association. Subscription rates are as follows.

• 1 year subscription (nonmembers and institutions): $25
• 2 year subscription (nonmembers and institutions): $40
• 1 year membership in PEA (journal subscription included): $75

Style and Submission Instructions for Authors

Initial submissions must be made in triplicate with a cover letter indicating that the manuscript is not currently being considered at another publication.  Also include a complete electronic copy of the paper in MS Word or as a PDF file on CD, or email the file to the Editor.  If a PDF file is sent, remove any author identifying information from the file.

Papers should have a cover page with the author's name, address, and affiliation.  The second page should have centered in all caps and bolded the paper title, double space, and in upper and lower case include the author's name followed by affiliation. Triple space and include a 50-100 word abstract. The paper itself should be typed in Times New Roman 10 point.  Do not number the pages electronically but instead write them in pencil on the back of each page (if submitting hard-copy).  All margins should be 1.7 inches.

All papers accepted by the PER for publication must be submitted in Microsoft Word.  Complete guidelines will be sent upon acceptance, but some basic guidelines include:

1. Equations: Default settings should be used.  Set point size to 10; use Arabic numbers flush right in parentheses.
2. References in the text should be parenthetical references with the author's last name and date of publication.  An alphabetical reference list should be included.  See reference lists in a recent issue of the PER for style format.
3. Tables should be numbered in Arabic numbers, e.g., Table 1.  Columns of the tables should be set using tab stops, NOT SPACES, to align OR the table setting in Word can be used. Tables should be placed at the end of your article and their appropriate placement in the text noted.
4. Figures are numbered similarly to tables, e.g., Figure 1.  The author will provide the figures in a Microsoft Word compatible format.
5. If you need to use footnotes, DO NOT use the endnote or footnote setting in Word.  Use superscript numbers to refer to your endnotes, which should appear at the end of the article.
6. Sections of the paper, such as INTRODUCTION, should be flush left and bolded in all capital letters with one extra line space between section head and text.  Subheads should be in upper and lower case letters, flush left and italicized, with one extra line spacing above and below the subhead.  For subheads below the first level subhead, indent one tab for the second subhead.  Please limit subheads to no more than two.
