Student Organizations at Edinboro University provide a wide variety of opportunities to become involved on campus and throughout the community.  Students will find that each and every organization is unique in purpose, activities and goals.  These organizations are open to all Edinboro University students.

 

African Student Association

Alpha Phi Sigma is the national honor society for criminal justice.  The society recognizes scholastic excellence by undergraduate and graduate students in the criminal justice sciences.  Once a student is inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma, it is a lifelong membership.  With this membership students are invited to attend annual criminal justice conferences at

various locations throughout the country, paid for by Alpha Phi Sigma.  In addition, Alpha Phi Sigma shall recognize and promote high scholarship among students actively engaged in college preparation for professional services in the Criminal Justice field.

 

Alpha Psi Omega (Service Fraternity)

The Gamma Kappa cast of Alpha Psi Omega was organized as a theatre honor society for the purpose of providing acknowledgement to those demonstrating a high standard of accomplishment in theatre and, through the expansion of Alpha Psi Omega among colleges and universities, providing a wider fellowship for those interested in theatre. Alpha Psi Omega provides opportunities to develop talents in all aspects of theatre, fosters cultural values and encourages cooperation and collaboration among members. Alpha Psi Omega is a co-curricular organization and is open to any student who meets the requirements set forth by the National Office. The group meets Wednesdays at 5:00 in the English and Theatre Arts department lounge on the 2nd floor of Centennial Hall. Please contact us with any questions.

Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society is a non-profit organization devoted to the advancement of scholarship and to the recognition of non-traditional students continuing their higher education.  The Society was established in 1945-1946 to honor superior scholarship and leadership in older adult learners and leadership in older adult learners who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests in family, community, and work.  Alpha Sigma Lambda is not only the oldest national society, but also is the largest chapter-based honor society for full and part-time non-traditional students.

The purpose of the fellowship of Imagination Station shall be to improve the animation skills of the members and to give them experience they will need to become animators. The club promotes art education through professional development, service, advancement of knowledge and leadership.  To that end, the club will: promote quality instruction in visual arts education conducted by its members as well as the advisory of certified teachers of art.  Art education Club encourages research in art education, will hold discussions, attend conferences and programs directly related to art educati8on, develop presentation, reports, and work with other members of the community to engage in activities which promote and enhance the learning experience for future art educators.

We strive to achieve two goals: (1) to promote greater understanding of American history and society among students from Asia and (2) to promote greater understanding of Asian culture among students and faculty of EUP.  The membership is open to all EUP students.  All students from Asia are members.  We welcome especially American students who are interested in Asia to join us as members.  Any EUP faculty interested in Asian culture is invited to be “the Friends of the Asia Club.”  To achieve our goals, we plan the following annual activities: (1) Trips to America’s historical sites (2) A speech/dinner in April in conjunction with the Asia Month (3) Cooking demonstration and sampling of Oriental foods (4) Showing of Asian films.

 

Astronomy/Planetarium Club

The Astronomy/Planetarium Club is for anyone with an interest in the night sky.  Work with families who come to our Thursday night public planetarium programs.  Learn how to operate the university planetarium.  Assist with viewing on clear nights through telescopes.  Any major can enjoy the night sky and help others enjoy it also.  Meetings are held on selected Thursday evenings after the public shows.

Beta Beta Beta is a society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research.  Established in 1950 the Alpha Chi Chapter has been awarded one of the top chapters since 1999.  More recently eight delegates at the national biannual tribeta meeting in Grand Junction, Colorado received the Bertholf award (a national award), making our Alpha Chi chapter the best in the nation.  Students are looking forward to the next biannual meeting in Melbourne, Florida.  The Alpha Chi chapter has also held the largest number of delegates at regional Beta Beta Beta meetings for the past 5 years.  Alpha Chi Club meetings are held bi-weekly in Cooper Hall.  At most meetings we have a speaker come and talk about a wide variety of Biology related topics from possible careers to their own scientific research.  There are also students that participate in scientific research at Edinboro.  Several of these students present their research at undergraduate research conferences and have received awards.  The Alpha Chi chapter is also involved in many community activities, ranging from an annual plant sales to high-way cleanup along I-79 to science fairs all designed to promote biological understanding.

  

Campus Crusade for Christ

The purpose of Campus Crusade for Christ shall be to provide students with a place to meet and discuss their beliefs.  Campus Crusade is open to all students on campus.  Each week we spend time singing praise to God and His son Jesus Christ, praying for others, reading the Bible, and talking about issues that we struggle with.  As a group, we participate in community service and different events on campus.  Our goal is to grow in our faith and knowledge of Christ through discipleship and also learn how to talk to others about our beliefs.

Membership is open to any student enrolled in Edinboro University, who was admitted via a developmental program, without regard to sex, race, creed, ancestry, national origin, or disability, who fulfills the following requirements:  Applicants for membership must have completed at least 24 credit hours as full time students, applicants for membership must have a cumulative quality point average (QPA) of3.0 or better for two consecutive semesters in a full-time status.  The advisor and co-advisor will verify QPA’s.

 

Christ for Life

Christ for Life exists for the purpose of ministering to the needs of others through expressing the word of Christ verbally or through artistically musical expression.  Furthermore, Christ for Life will serve as a spiritual and emotional support group for its members.  Members are encouraged to offer their total support towards the uplifting of the word of Jesus Christ and our Father, God and also to function cooperatively as a brother or sister to all members.

Circle K is the college level of Kiwanas and Key Club.  We meet one night a week to do something fun and plan service projects for our club.  Our projects range from serving ice cream at the nursing home, to hanging out at the day care center, and raising money for local shelters.  Circle K is a great way to make new friends and an opportunity to get credit for helping the community.

The purpose of the Clay Club is to improve the University and local community through community service projects such as donating bowls that we make to local food banks. Clay Club also enhances the educational and social experiences of its members.  Members often travel to workshops to interact with other students and professional artists.

Edinboro University's College Republicans is a great club for the conservative to join and the politically confused to check out.  The College Republicans discuss politics at their meetings and also get involved with Republican candidates and campaigns.  Conservatives can meet with others who share their same views and the politically confused are welcome to check out the club to expand their political knowledge.  This group is affiliated with the College Republican National Committee.  They usually meet on Thursdays at 5pm in Hendricks Hall G-13.  Meeting dates and times are scheduled to change, so be sure to check the website: www.geocities.com/eup_republicans

Delta Mu Delta is a national honor society that promotes and recognizes outstanding business student achievement. Membership in the society provides the opportunity to interact with faculty and other outstanding students through speakers, discussions, field trips, and other activities. Edinboro students are eligible for induction through its Iota Omega Chapter.

 

Delta Mu Delta membership is the highest national recognition a business student can earn, and is a distinguished honor to include on one's resume. Students who are inducted become lifetime members. At Edinboro University, induction occurs at a special ceremony designed to celebrate student achievement.

The Drawing and Painting Club offers extra-curricular opportunities which augment the Drawing and Painting area's curricular offerings.  Activities include a visiting speaker series, a daytrip each semester to a regional art museum, and juried Club group exhibition opportunities, both on and off-campus. In addition, the club offers an opportunity for selected club members to spend a weekend in a larger metropolitan area so they can visit numerous art museums and galleries.

Edinboro Students Craving Anime (E.S.C.A.)

ESCA are Edinboro Students Craving Anime.  Anime, or Japanese animation, has become increasingly popular among American audiences.  Edinboro’s student organization sponsors weekly screenings, occasional lectures, and an annual excursion to a national conference in Washington D.C.  ESCA also explores manga (Japanese comics and graphic novels) and video/card games.  They have also done charity fundraising for Project Linus – creating quilt squares to be made into blankets for children in hospitals.  ESCA is proud to be one of the clubs at Edinboro that invites students from all majors and backgrounds to enjoy Japanese pop culture.  Membership stands at about 30 undergraduates.

The purpose of the Exercise Science Club shall be to improve the University and local community through community service projects as well as to enhance the educational and social experiences of its members.  The purpose of this club is to help provide students with practical experiences that reinforce the concepts relating to exercise science as well as provide service to the community for events that relate to exercise science.  Furthermore, the club is to look at the more scientific part of exercise and the physiological aspects of exercise.  The club is designed for those interested in research, laboratory experiments, and focus on scientific information.  The club will participate in events such as the Boston Marathon or other community events that provide members with experiences that demonstrate the effects of rigorous training on the athletes that participate in these activities.  The club will encourage student research and participation in the Mid-Atlantic (and/or) National American College of Sports Medicine conference.

The purpose of the Graduate Social Work Association (GSWA) is to improve the University and local community through service projects and to enhance the educational and social experiences of its members.  It is the mission of GSWA to foster strong professional ethics, to perform community service, promote continuing education, support the advancement of the profession, and embrace culturally diverse programs.  GSWA welcomes any and all graduate students of social work, whether full or part-time. There is no fee for membership.

The Graphic Design Club is aimed at the communication graphic majors of EUP.  Members can gain knowledge and criticism of their work from their peers.  The Graphic Design Club organizes such activities as an annual Graphic Design Show, computer demonstrations for high school art days, as well as inviting guest speakers.  The club also attends studio tours that provide experience and insight of professional design firms. 

 

Health and Physical Education Major’s Club

The Health and Physical Education Majors Club provides a variety of professional development and community service opportunities for all students majoring or minoring in any of the HPE department’s degree programs.  Students are able to attend the annual conference of the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and are often able to serve as presiders for professional presentations and the conference.  Students are also able to participate in annual community service activities, including the American Cancer Society “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk at Presque Isle and American Red Cross blood drives held at EUP.  Students are also able to participate in a variety of other activities, including volunteer at the EUP Health Fair, attending discipline-related workshops and guest speaker presentations, and giving health and wellness presentations to various community groups.  This club is an excellent way for HPE students to meet other HPE majors, make professional contacts, and build their resumes.

The purpose of the History Club is to enhance the educational and social experience of students at EUP.  The club organizes a variety of panel discussions revolving around historical and cultural subjects.  Every fall the club takes a trip to a major historical site or city.  In the past, the club has visited Washington D.C., Williamsburg, and Toronto.  The club is a large and active organization on campus.

The purpose of this organization is to encourage and support scholarship and excellence in the area of Women’s Studies at Edinboro University and to improve the University and local community through community service projects.  Membership shall be open to any Edinboro University student, without regard to gender, race, ethnicity, religion, differing abilities, economic class, or sexual orientation.  The student must be either an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full or part time in a degree program.  The student must either be enrolled in the Women’s Studies Minor program, or be a student, undergraduate or graduate, who demonstrates a strong interest in Women’s Studies.  Student must have achieved third semester standing with at least 6 credits of women’s studies coursework with a QPA of 3.0 and an overall QPA of 3.0.

Kappa Delta Pi is an international Honor Society in Education.  The members are required to attend three meetings throughout the course of each semester.  The meetings focus on educational issues as well as service opportunities and guest speaker.  All meetings are held in the Miller Research Center at 7:45PM.  Each year an initiation banquet is held during the spring semester for new members.  All members must have earned a 3.5 QPA and must have completed a minimum of 50 credit hours.  The society requires 4 hours of service each semester.  Service opportunities are varied and are required to remain in good-standing.  Kappa Delta Pi has as its membership all education majors.

The purpose of our club is to foster an awareness of the field of metalsmithing and jewelry design.  To make this possible, we bring in guest artists to lecture about their work, and attend museum exhibitions and the Society of North American Goldsmiths conference.  Funds to support the club are raised through the sale of member work.

The purpose of the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Peer Mentor and Peer Tutor Association shall be to assist the University in increasing the retention rate of its students; this will be accomplished through the educational and social experiences of its members gained through individualized and group mentoring and tutoring of the students of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  Applicants for membership must have completed one full year (24 credit hours).  Applicants for membership must have a cumulative Quality Point Average (QPA) of 2.7, 3.0 in area of specialty or better, and the recommendations of two faculty members

The purpose of Phi Alpha Honor Society is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals.  Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.  Phi Alpha offers membership to social work students, faculty, and practitioners.  Student from BSW and MSW programs that are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education or accepted into candidacy status are eligible for Phi Alpha Membership.  The qualifications for individual membership in the Kappa Epsilon Chapter are as follows:  Undergraduate Student is eligible for membership after achieving the following requirements; Declared social work as a major, achieved sophomore status, completed 9 semester hours of required social work courses, achieved an overall grad point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, achieved a 3.25 grade point average in required social work courses.  Graduate student in social work is eligible for membership after achieving the following requirements:  Completed one semester of course work with a minimum of 15 credits, achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.  Memberships available to all full time social work faculty.  Honorary membership is awarded to person outside the program who have made a significant contribution to the program and/or society.

Phi Sigma Iota recognizes outstanding achievement I the study of foreign languages and cultures and promotes international communication and understanding.  The society regularly participates in the Adopt-a-Square campus-cleanup program and the March of Dimes Walk-a-thon.  Several members participate in service projects by volunteering to tutor, translate, and interpret for human services organizations.  Phi sigma Iota sponsors trips for all interested Edinboro students to musical, theatrical, and artistic presentations.
